IC of France - Roehampton & AELTC IC of Great Britain vs IC of France Venue: Day 1 – National Tennis Centre, Roehampton | Day 2 – All England Lawn Tennis Club Indoor Tennis Centre Categories: Open & Over 50s Result: IC of Great Britain 6 – 8 IC of France Surface: Indoor Hard The IC of Great Britain recently hosted the IC of France for a fantastic two-day fixture filled with great tennis, laughter, and camaraderie. The teams featured players from both the Open and Over 50s categories, with two ladies and five men representing the ICs. The weekend began at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, where players kicked things off with a few friendly padel matches. Once the rackets switched from padel to tennis, the competitive spirit took over as both teams got stuck into two rounds of doubles and mixed doubles. The matches were all closely contested and played in brilliant spirit – in a true IC fashion. On Day Two, play moved to the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s Indoor Tennis Centre, which provided a superb setting for the remaining three rounds – a mix of singles and doubles. With the overall score finely balanced, everything came down to the final round of matches, and it was the IC of France who just managed to edge ahead in third-set tie-breaks, taking a well-deserved 8–6 win. While France claimed the narrow victory, the atmosphere from both teams was fantastic throughout. The French team were wonderful guests – competitive on court, but just as lively and good-humoured off it, helping create a brilliant weekend for everyone involved. Off the court, both teams were treated to a tour of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, expertly led by Anne Clarke and John Fever, who shared fascinating stories from their time at Wimbledon. John’s memories of chatting with Fred Perry before his first-ever match on Centre Court were a real highlight. The weekend concluded with a fantastic dinner in the Champions’ Room, where players shared stories, laughs, and a toast to two great days of tennis. A huge thank you to the IC of France for making the trip and contributing so much to the fixture, and to everyone at the NTC and the AELTC for their hospitality. The matches were close, the company was even better, and the spirit of the IC shone through from start to finish.
