The Two Presidents Cup - Barcelona Two Presidents Cup Barcelona - October 2025 Team: Georgie Bartholomew, Eilidh Smith, Leyla Ogan (Captain) This is one of the best trips on the IC Calendar. We played at the Real Club for 2 days and then the Polo Club. The clubs are beautiful, full of history, and there is so much pride in this event. The Spanish are amazing hosts and spoil us all the time. The first night was the draw, welcome drink and dinner at the Polo Club. This is always a great chance to re-connect with players and feel grateful for being in Barcelona. There were 8 countries in the draw, and we were seeded 4th and drew the Czech Republic in the first round. Day One: v The Czech Republic Eilidh stepped up first in singles and played some amazing clay court tennis to secure a very solid win and put us 1-0 up. I had a marathon battle and lost so we went into live doubles. We played a smart and consistent match and got the win to take us through to the semi-finals. We had a long day on the court, but met up with the men’s team for some dinner and it was nice that Peter, Sue and Benson were able to join us. Semi Finals Day v Germany We know the German girls well as we compete against them at the World Championships which they won in 2025 so we knew we were in for a battle.Eilidh continued her winning ways and was very consistent. She secured a very important win but sadly I did not win my singles so we went into a live doubles. The Germans came out very strong and showed why they are World Champions. We were treated to a lovely dinner at the Real Club in the evening. It was nice for all the teams to be together and catch up. 3rd/4th play off v Italy. We all played at the Polo Club on the last day, which created a great atmosphere. Eilidh and Georgie both put in very strong performances in their respective singles matches and looked very comfortable on the clay, but both lost to very experienced clay court players. We ended the tennis event coming 4th, which is very respectable. We all competed with a lot of pride and under the IC spirit. As always, we love this event, it’s full of great tennis, amazing venues, excellent hospitality and the last night is always a great social event. Thank you to my team, Eilidh and Georgie for great memoires on and off the court, and always great fun when we meet up with the men’s team.
