IC of GB v Fitzwilliam

On Saturday 20th April, the IC of GB played host to Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club - an annual fixture comprising four men and two women. The IC of GB team consisted of some familiar faces alongside a couple of new additions to the fixture – all players competed hard and in a great spirit, which was carried by all into the evening festivities. The fixture was played at the AELTC Community Tennis Centre, where all participants were very grateful to enjoy the great courts, facilities and catering.

Having been informed that the Fitzwilliam team resisted the full offering of London’s night life the evening before (choosing instead to ‘only’ stay at a local pub until closing) we knew that they meant business! On the day, six very competitive singles matches went the way of the IC of GB as players held their nerve in three crucial tie breaks, before Fitzwilliam came storming back to win two of the three doubles matches. The final score, a 7-2 victory of the IC of GB, was flattering given how close many of the matches were. 

Following the tennis, with Fitzwilliam LTC being such brilliant hosts when we travel to Dublin every other year, we knew we couldn’t rest on our laurels. Fortunately, the weather was on our side! Drinks on the terrace at the tennis centre were followed by a short trip to Clapham Junction for dinner, before four hours of dancing to “2000s bangers” at Northcote Records. The IC-Fitzwilliam relationship continues to be a strong one and we thank the team for being such superb guests.
