The teams arrived expecting to play on the grass at St Georges, however a short shower 30 minutes before play put the grass out of action.  The match was therefore played on porous acrylic.  Dinner as ever was excellent.  The match continues to be an event which brings old friends together, some of whom have not met in over 20 years’. A strong IC team beat the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin without dropping a set. Over the course of the day, there were 2 men's singles, 2 men's doubles, 2 mixed doubles, and a ladies doubles. The team was captained by Laura Peterzan, and included Amanda Elliott, Rob Blythe, Gary Thomson, Tim Weir, and Greg Weir.

Available in both long sleeve and sleeveless versions they are 100% natural wool, unisex, cabled and off-white (almost white) coloured. Sizes go from 32 to 50 inches (even numbers). Anne Clark, Niall Sweeney, David Waite, Tim Phillips, Mike Carroll, Chris Clark and David Collins represented the IC of GB against a strong IC of Denmark team, which included a member of their Davis Cup squad. Although Anne Clark won all of her matches without conceding a set, the Danes secured the overall match by 13 rubbers to 8 on clay courts at the Rungsted Tennis Club just outside Copenhagen. The IC of GB team of Lee Childs, Chris Clark, David Culshaw, Jin May, Paul Siviter and Matt Thomas beat a representative team from the Public School Old Boys 7-2. Originally planned for grass, the fixture had to be switched to artificial clay due to torrential rain the previous evening. The match consisted of three men's doubles pairs competing against each other; followed by a fantastic match supper at Stoke Park.

Welcome to the final round-up from the 5th day of IC U16 Junior Challenge Worldwide Finals at The All England Lawn Tennis Club. Tied 3-3 after the singles, the USA had to forfeit the mixed doubles play-off match (they had to catch an early flight home) and consequently lost to Argentina 4-3 thus ending their unbeaten run; Great Britain beat Japan 6-0; and Italy beat South Africa 5 – 1. The USA had already clinched the title yesterday but there was a three way play-off for second place as Argentina, Great Britain and Italy all finished the week with 3 wins each. Read more...

TENNIS CLINIC KICK STARTS THE IC JUNIOR CHALLENGE
The 2014 IC U16 Junior Challenge Worldwide Finals kicked off with a clinic for local state primary school children yesterday. In glorious sunshine the clinic was run by Dan Bloxham, the Head Coach at The AELTC, and Barry Cowan a former professional player and currently a TV commentator for Sky Sports.

It provided the perfect opportunity to introduce children from less privileged backgrounds to tennis, and a wonderful opportunity for competitors at the Junior Challenge to give something back to the game.

On a glorious summers evening at St Georges Hill Tennis Club the IC of GB hosted SLTC to a two pair 45’s and two pair’s 60’s match. The IC of Italy and IC of Mexico were this year’s guests during the build up to The Championships, Wimbledon. The touring teams enjoyed the wonderful surroundings of The Edgbaston Priory Club, St George’s Hill and The Hurlingham as they played three matches against various IC of GB teams.

CAMBRIDGE GET THE BLUES
Result: IC of GB 9  – 3 University of Cambridge (Men)
Event Date: Saturday 31st May 2014

The IC of GB men beat a youthful Cambridge University team 9 – 3 at Fenner’s Sports Ground, Cambridge. The fixture started with doubles at 11am on hard courts (due to rain overnight) with a closely contested first round - the IC managed to win two of the three matches in third set tie-breaks, as well as a straight sets win at third pair. Once the courts had dried the match switched to grass in the afternoon for singles and another round of doubles. With 4 wins and 2 losses in the singles, the IC team took an unassailable 7 - 2 lead ahead of the final round of doubles before closing out a 9 - 3 victory. Read more...

Results: IC of GB vs IC of Italy lost 5-0; vs Spain B won 5-0; vs IC of Belgium won 5-0
Event Dates: Friday 30th May – Sunday 1st June 2014

The IC of GB once again faced the eventual champions in the first round of the Potter Cup, held at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. Last year it was Spain, and this year it was Italy who thwarted the Brits chances of progressing deeper into the tournament. A tough 5-0 loss to a very strong Italian team meant the best place the Brits could finish was 5thplace overall. Read more...

The annual Under 30’s vs Over 30’s fixture was again played at the NTC on a sunny, but thunderstorm interrupted afternoon. Each team consisted of 4 men and 4 ladies and each played a doubles and a mixed. All matches were closely contested but in the end the Under 30s were victorious by 5 matches to 3.

WIMBLEDON REFEREE BECOMES IC GOLF CHAMPION
Event Dates: Wednesday 7th May 2014

The annual golf day organised brilliantly by Brian Hatton was once again held at the beautiful High Course at Moor Park. The course was in magnificent condition which most of the 24 competitors stated after the round. Winner of this year’s event with 35 points was Andrew Jarrett while Simon Curtis still recovering from an operation secured the second prize on 32 points (and two count backs!). The Ladies’ prize was won by Caroline Greatrex with 29 points who regained the position she held two years ago. Read more...

IC of GB members were out in force at the recent ITF World Team Championships in Florida with considerable success. Michelle Oldham, Lucie Ahl and Jo Louis were all part of the triumphant W40 championship team. Christine French, Anthea Stewart, Sue Bartlett and Anne Clark won silver in the W55 event. There was also trio of bronze medals in the M35, M45 and W45 events - with the IC of GB represented by Colin Bennett, Mark Beim in the 35s, Dan Ahl, Matt Coombes, Andy Phillips and Paul Scullard in the M45s and Siobhan Nicholson, Julie Salmon and Clare Wood in the W45s. Read article on LTA website...

CHRISTINE FRENCH TAKES DOUBLE GOLD AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Christine French claimed the ladies 55 singles title at the World Individual Championships and also went on to pick up a gold medal with husband Paul French in the mixed 55 doubles event. Richard Wire and Steph Cornish won this years IC Autumn Meet by the narrowest of margins.  With the points score tied with Jim May and Kath Laidler at 29 all, the four players went on to play a deciding 10 point tie-break which went the defending champions way.

IC of Great Britain sent a team to the Netherlands to compete for the Francis Wallis Cup. Great Britain captain Simon Curtis unfortunately could not travel because of an eye injury, so a slightly depleted team of 5 made the trip.

September 21st & 22nd we hosted the quadrangular Golf Tennis fixture at Moor Park. This event sees the IC Clubs of Great Britain, France, Belgium and Italy doing battle in a interesting format with players particpating in Tennis only, Golf only and some players playing both sports.

IC Nation's Trophy 2012 Frankfurt 22nd, 23rd September
The third IC Nations’ Trophy, hosted by the IC of Germany was played at the Bad Vilbel TC, Frankfurt who was celebrating becoming the 2012 German Champions.   The club offered excellent facilities including 12 red clay courts, 4 indoor artificial clay, a comfortable clubhouse and superb dining.

We had another good match for the Peter Jackson Trophy against the Irish IC at Limpsfield LTC, Surrey on Saturday 14th July 2012.  On Friday evening prior to the match both teams were royally entertained by Richard and Lise Stoakes at their home.

This match has been running for more than 50 years and has been held at St Georges for the last 20 years.  The match is mostly played on the grass at St Georges.  However, this year’s poor weather continued with rain on the evening curtailing the format.

Hurlingham Garden Party
On Sunday 24 June 2012 the annual Garden Party took place at the beautiful Hurlingham Club in Ranelagh Gardens, London. The programme contained many events such as croquet, bowls, fencing, laser clay pigeon shooting etc while the Silk Street New Orleans Jazz Band provided the music.

Our pre Championship International guests at St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club this year were the ICs of Austria and Switzerland. Unfortunately, for the second year in succession, the weather was not too kind with intermittent showers meaning that no grass court play was possible.

Our guests for this years Pre Wimbledon event were the ICs of Austria and Switzerland,and as is customary their six day event starts at the Edgbaston Priory Club.Both teams sent very good quality players with the IC of Austria comprising of ten men and one woman and the IC of Switzerland having five men and three women.

IC of Uruguay celebrates 30th Anniversary  March 2012
The event was played at the lovely Hotel Del Lago on their excellent red clay courts. The hotel is situated about 12 miles from the very popular resort of Punta Del Este. Players from GB, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, United States, Uruguay, participated in a men's doubles tournament with different age groups.

The 2012 IC Spring Meeting and New Members’ dinner
The 2012 IC Spring Meeting and New Members’ dinner was held this year on Sunday March 4 at the David Lloyd Centre in Raynes Park.  10 strong pairs competed for the King of Sweden’s Cup with Kate Gowar and Rob Searle winning in the final against Andrea Munch-Hermansen and David Culshaw.

India's 60th Anniversary Celebrations
India’s 60th anniversary was celebrated in great style in New Delhi in November 2011. Apart from four teams from different parts of India there were six ICs represented i.e. USA, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and GB.

IC vs NTC juniors 13 November 2012
In order to increase the availability of matches to our newer members it was decided to increase the size of this match from two men and two ladies to four and four.  However, it proved difficult to find ladies to play, so a big thank you goes to Steph Cornish, Laura Peterzan and Anna Hawkins for being so accommodating and playing extra matches (and winning the majority of them!).

USA regains Ted Avory Trophy in Washington
A very strong USA team took revenge for their defeat at Stoke Park in 2009. This time the USA beat GB convincingly by 36-18 (detailed results to follow), bringing the overall tally to 4-4 after eight matches for the Ted Avory Trophy.

A five man team travelled to Barcelona this year to represent GB in the 2011 Potter Cup. Graham Neale, Simon Curtis and Chris Hearn all returned to compete again whilst excellent debut's were made by Steve Brett and Chris Clarke.

GB narrowly defeated in the Compass IC European Challenge
The Compass IC European Junior Challenge was played in Bucharest, Romania, from 9 to 15 May 2011. Our team consisting of Youssef Hassan, Chris Morrow, Sabrina Federici and Hollie Davies with John Morris as captain was only just beaten into second place by losing the deciding mixed doubles tiebreak against Germany.
