GB wins Francis Wallis Trophy

IC of Great Britain sent a team to the Netherlands to compete for the Francis Wallis Cup. Great Britain captain Simon Curtis unfortunately could not travel because of an eye injury, so a slightly depleted team of 5 made the trip. The Dutch had kindly offered to host the match on the day following their annual golf day, with an invitation to join them for golf the day before.

IC of Netherlands Annual Golf Day

This was held on Friday October 12th at the beautiful Eindhovensche Golfclub.  We enjoyed a great round of golf on the tree-lined course, drinks and an excellent meal in the clubhouse, and speeches and prize-giving over coffee.  The prize for lowest gross was won by Tom Okker, and the Dutch were kind enough to award prizes for best performances by Brits, Wendy Carter, Henk Nijeboer and Barry Weatherill picking up the honours.

Francis Wallis Cup

On Saturday October 13th we played for the Francis Wallis Cup on indoor carpet at the Health and Sports Club Valkencourt. The teams were smaller than on past occasions, but the keenness of competition none the less for that.  The match comprised 4 men’s singles, 1 ladies’ singles, 1 men’s doubles and one mixed doubles. It went to the wire with Great Britain sneaking home 10-7 in the 3rd-set tiebreak of the final match.

The Dutch again treated us to a wonderful meal in the evening, this time in a private room at a local restaurant.
