20 April 2014 / Categories: IC of GB News, 2014 FITZWILLIAM CLUB, DUBLIN, IRELAND GUNN AND PETERZAN SECURE 5-4 WIN AS MATCH COMES DOWN TO THE WIRE Result: IC of GB 5 - 4 Fitzwilliam Club Event Date: Saturday 12th April 2014 A youthful team of six traveled to Ireland to play the annual fixture against the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin last weekend. Captained by Paddy May, the IC of GB team also included Richard Wire, Craig Edmondson, Rob Blythe, Cath Gunn and Laura Peterzan. The chosen format was 4 mens and 2 ladies singles, followed by 2 mens doubles and 1 ladies doubles. The match itself was one of the closest to date and following three ten-point tiebreak wins in the singles, the Irish took a commanding 4-2 lead into the final round of doubles matches. However, the IC of GB mens pairings of Wire/Edmondson and Blythe/May both came out strong and each delivered straight set wins to level the match at 4-4 overall. Match victory was finally secured by Gunn/Peterzan in the final ladies doubles following a close 6-4 7-5 win. Paddy May said "It's been a really fantastic fixture this year. Every match was really competitive and played in the spirit of the IC. Irish hospitality is second to none and the away match against the Fitzwilliam Club is always one of the first in the diary for many younger members of the Club. I can't say thank you enough to Nick Malone [opposing Captain] and everybody else at the Fitzwilliam Club for providing such a warm welcome and for the generous hospitality we received."
