Anne Clark's 2021 Reflections

Dear Member,

I hope this finds you well.

2021 has been another very strange year, although we have been lucky with our sport to have been able to play both socially and competitively for the majority of the time. The IC of GB held a second online AGM at the end of April with a few changes taking place on the Committee. I very much hope that the AGM due in April 2022 will be a face-to-face one. A few of our new Members joined in the successful mix-in at the Hurlingham Club on the Sunday before the Wimbledon Championships. I had pleasure in presenting the IC of GB Sportsmanship Award to Annabel Croft. This Award is given to a British tennis player who has over the course of his/her career or in a single situation shown an admirable attitude as a sportsman or sportswoman. The IC helps promote and renew friendships across the net and the world, encouraging fair play and sportsmanship, something that Annabel has consistently done throughout her career – a former professional British No. 1 female tennis player from Kent and now a respected radio and television presenter. The IC of GB would like to congratulate the AELTC for the very successful Championships held. At very short notice the arrangements were changed to adhere to the Government’s Event Research Programme guidelines. The Championships created an extra special ‘buzz’ this summer, given the restrictions leading up to it. We would also like to thank the AELTC for their continued support of the IC. Fixtures started again with the IC of GB participating in a number of matches including the Potter Cup, the John Dunningham Trophy where the IC of GB plays against the LTA Juniors, an IC of GB Golf Day at the beautiful Moor Park Golf Club along with many others. The fixture Committee has been busy rescheduling postponed matches with the original plans for 2022, with the match schedule for 2022 being finalised. Do  check the website by clicking here to view match reports from our 2021 fixtures as well details of the 2022 programme of matches and events. The match managers always welcome expressions of interest if you would like to be considered for any particular matches. We will continue to closely monitor the Covid-19 guidelines and will adjust the schedule accordingly. A number of us have been working hard preparing for the IC of GB Centenary in 2024.  An exciting event to look forward to – details will be communicated once plans are finalised.    The IC Philanthropy team has worked hard during 2021 raising donations to support disadvantaged children and disabled young people – for more details please visit the ICP section on the main website by clicking here. If you’ve read this far – thank you! Those who know me know I like to end on a light note, so a tennis joke to use along with those cracker jokes….. Q. “Why was the tennis club’s website down”? A. “They had problems with the server”…… Sorry! On behalf of the IC of GB I would like to wish you and your families a very peaceful, happy and safe Christmas as we look forward to a fun and tennis-packed 2022.

Regards,

Anne Clark
