The Hurlingham Garden Party

The Hurlingham Garden Party

At 11am on Sunday, 19th June, teams from the IC’s of GB, Barbados, Sweden and Denmark congregated by the grass courts at The Hurlingham Club, following a superb evening at the IC ball, to play against one another in a round-robin match.

Given the rather wet week that preceded the match, not all of Hurlingham’s grass courts were playable, however, we were lucky with the weather on the day and, as such, were permitted to play our match on the two grass show courts in addition to five back up astroturf courts.

Each IC side had roughly 10 players, all of whom played at least one pro-set doubles match against each of the three opposing teams. Throughout the day there were many matches played a number of which were very close indeed! The GB team played very well winning the greatest number (twelve in total) while the Danes were close behind winning nine.

All in all we had a great day of tennis throughout which players were also able to enjoy the entertainment organised for the Hurlingham garden party which included a gripping pro-am match (arranged by the IC of GB), an opera singer, a brass band, virtual clay pigeon shooting and stacks more.
