Pre Wimbledon 2011 – Sweden, Barbados & Denmark

For the 2011 IC of GB Pre Wimbledon event our guests were the ICs of Barbados, Denmark and Sweden and as usual the first venue was the Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham.

The event started with a welcome party at Peter Mockridge's and Ann Dawes on the Tuesday evening, and a good fun evening was had by all. On the Wednesday we were fortunate enough to play our first round of matches on the grass courts, but we then had to revert to the indoor courts due to heavy rain until mid afternoon, where we once again were able to return to the grass. After some very good tennis the final result was a close 8-7 win for the combined team of Denmark and Sweden against Barbados and Great Britain.

It was great that our Chairman David Waite and his wife Gill came up from London to support the event on and off the court, which was very much appreciated. Pauline Fisher, Alec Davidson and John Howarth were the other non Edgbaston Priory IC of GB members and we are grateful for their participation.

In the evening we had 44 for the dinner and everybody seemed to get on really well with some entertaining speeches from the visiting captains.

I would once again like to thank Micky Fallows(Chairman of Edgbaston Priory) and Rob Bray(Chief Executive of Edgbaston Priory) for their continued support for the IC of GB Pre Wimbledon event. We are very grateful of being offered such great facilities and we wish them well for their new venture for the club.

The second match was played on a rain interrupted dat at St. George's Hill in Weybridge - see results below. The IC is very grateful to the management of the St. George's Hill  LTC for the use of their facilities. Mike Carroll, the Match Manager, also likes to thank players and supporters who turned out to welcome, entertain and look after our guests from overseas.
