POTTER CUP

The IC of GB got off to a strong start at the Potter Cup, winning all singles matches in straight sets to beat Belgium 7-0 in the first round. The team line up featured:

#1 Seb Jackson
#2 Matt Coombes
#3 Laurence Matthews
#4 Andy Phillips
#5 Ben Knapp (Capt). All won their singles in straight setssingles.

In the doubles, the pairings of Seb Jackson/Dave Mills and Matt Coombes/Andy Phillips both won 9-2 - playing a pro-set as these were dead rubbers.

In the semi-final the IC of USA beat the IC of GB 4-1.  The matches were closely fought, with Laurence Matthews losing at No.3 7-6 in the 3rd set and Seb Jackson narrowly losing an unbelievable match in the No.1 singles 7-5 in the 3rd to Mikael Pernfors (ex ATP Top 10). Ben Knapp was the only singles winner at No.5.

Great Britain lost in the third/fourth play-off to Spain (who lost to Italy 4-1 in the other semi-final) and finished 4th overall.

Congratulations to the USA who won the event, beating last year's winners Italy in the final 4-3.
