IC vs Oxford & Cambridge Universities - Ladies

We had a great match against Oxford and Cambridge Universities on Sunday 15th May, and the result was a draw.

It was the first time that we have drawn this match, as we have always won quite easily in the past. It was definitely one of the best matches we have had, and it was good to see quite strong teams from Oxford and Cambridge. Our team was Marilyn Watson (new member), Helen Devine (nee Turnbull), Sally Godman, and myself. I was going to be non-playing Captain, as our Danish visiting member Andrea Hermansen, was also scheduled to play, but unfortunately she had to drop out at fairly short notice to go back home.

We changed the format a little this year, to doubles only, and 2 pairs each side, and it worked very well.

Cambridge did actually swap in a second pair for the second match, but this was their choice as their number 1 player has been ill so could only play one match. Their second pair were very strong also, including a girl who was apparently number 1 junior in Estonia.

We were lucky enough to get on the grass courts at Fenners, which were playing very nicely. Oxford seem very happy to keep the match at Fenners in Cambridge, as their university club courts are apparently not the best grass courts.
