IC of GB vs Oxford & Cambridge Universities

By Alexandra Napier

Match result: IC of GB won 4 matches to 3

The match was very competitive this year, with the combined Oxford & Cambridge University team turning out a strong side, including both of their number 1 pairs for the upcoming Varsity match.

The IC of GB squeaked to a narrow victory, at 4 matches to 3. Our team included two new IC members, Helen Turnbull and Claire Hamilton, who partnered each other to make up the number one pairing and won 2 out of their 3 matches. Sally Godman, Kathryn Laidler and Ali Napier made up the rest of the IC of GB side, and due to a late drop out, one of the Oxford team, Julia Lowis, stepped in to play for us and make up the 6th.

The grass courts at Fenners were playing beautifully, and will be the venue for the ladies Varsity match this year. Cambridge University was very hospitable and look forward to organising the fixture again next year. The Oxford team are happy to keep Fenners as the venue given the good condition of the grass courts.

Taking advantage of the wonderful sunny day we then took a nice punt along the river with a glass of celebratory champagne!
