The Wallenberg quadrangular mixed match between the ICs of GB, France, Sweden and Belgium was held at Waterloo near Brussels this year.
The IC of GB took a strong team with Lizzie Jelfs and Oliver Freelove in the +30 category and Katie Shaw and Graham Neale in the +40/+45 age-group. Benson Greatrex and Karen Whishaw went as Captain , Manager and reserves.
The other three teams also arrived with strong players in each category and sadly injury and illness played a part in the IC of GB not winning a match, Graham spraining his ankle on the first day and Oliver being replaced by Rob Searle due to illness. However Lizzie Jelfs won all of her singles which was a great effort. Rob also turned in a great performance on Saturday morning going onto court at 10am straight from the Eurostar and narrowly losing to Olivier Cayla from France.
The hospitality from the IC of Belgium was as always first class.
The IC of France proved too strong for everyone winning the event with the loss of only 2 rubbers.
My thanks to the GB Team who put up a good fight!
