Match Result: IC of Belgium (1st), IC of GB (2nd), IC of France (3rd), IC of GB II (4th)
Date: Friday 26th and Saturday 27th August 2016
Venue: Cumberland LTC / Highgate Golf Club & Moor Park
On the August bank holiday weekend the IC of GB hosted this year’s IC Tennis / Golf Challenge, a format consisting of two tennis players, two golfers and two players who play both tennis and golf. IC of GB players included Simon Curtis, Gavin Clunie, Dave Culshaw, Richard Wire, Shamus Donald and David Waite.
This year the event was split across two locations, Cumberland LTC and Highgate Golf Club on the Friday, and then Moor Park for both tennis and golf on the following day. The gala BBQ was then held at Highgate Golf Club. Our thanks to all the venues who looked after us magnificently.
The weather was amazing, so we were able to play tennis on grass an all days, and enjoy 'al fresco' drinking and dinning on both days.
On Friday, IC of Belgium beat IC of France 4-3, with the very competitive match being decided on the 18th Green at Highgate GC, the winning put was made by Patrick Lemaine of Belgium. On Saturday at Moor Park, the IC of France beat the GB II team 4-3, and the IC of Belgium beat the IC of GB 4-3, to win this year’s trophy. This was the first time the IC of Belgium have won the trophy away from home, very fitting, as they have a wonderful travelling team of players and companions.
Due to the IC of Italy not able to travel, we managed to pull together a GB II team on Saturday to ensure that the French side could play a match. Our thanks to the guest players, Tony Bollardie, Richard Santy and Jono Sumner from Cumberland who pulled together the GB II team at very short notice.
